What is Audible Plus?

Audible Plus is Amazon’s new Audible membership plan. It’s an all-you-can-listen audiobook service that offers over 11,000+ audiobook titles that you can enjoy during your membership!

Since this is an unlimited listening plan, you pay one price up front ($7.95 per month) and can listen to as many audiobooks as you like from the catalog each month. The included content ranges from audiobooks, to podcasts, to Amazon Originals…and you’ll find anything from classics to contemporary works, and from documentaries, to kids books, to romance, to comedies, and more! You can learn more about Audible Plus and the Plus catalog here.

However, something you need to know before buying Audible Plus is that the audiobooks are not yours to keep forever, just yours to listen to as long as you have a Plus subscription. Essentially, it’s kind of like Netflix for audiobooks. Once you cancel your subscription, you’ll no longer have access to the audiobooks that you listened to or any new ones from the Plus catalog.

But there’s a pretty good range of books with many excellent titles in Plus, and if you’re interested in trying new genres, new audiobook narrators, etc., then this plan can be a great choice. With 68,000+ hours of content included, there’s certainly plenty to listen to!

What is Audible Premium Plus?

Now that we know what Audible Plus is, what is Audible Premium Plus? Premium Plus is what Amazon now calls their original, classic subscription service. If you had Audible in the past, then this is the service you used…but with just a slight modification now!

Premium Plus costs $14.95 per month, and the main benefit of this plan is that you get 1 credit each month which can be exchanged for one audiobook from the entire Audible catalog (over 470,000 audiobooks). Any audiobook you buy with a credit is yours to keep forever and listen to whenever you want, even if you cancel your subscription!

Other features of Premium plus include a discount of 30% off any audiobooks you buy with a credit card (if you run out of Audible credits to exchange for audiobooks), as well as access to exclusive sales throughout the year. And, with the introduction of Plus, you also can listen to as many audiobooks as you want from the Plus catalog each month!

If you still have questions about how Audible works with the Premium Plus or Plus plans, you can learn more here. But in essence, the Premium Plus plan includes everything that Plus offers as well as an additional bonus of 1 or 2 audiobooks each month that you can keep forever.

What is the difference between Audible Plus and Audible Premium Plus?

So what is the difference between Audible Plus and Premium Plus? If you’re trying to decide which plan to choose, there are a few key differences you should consider.

1. Price

One of the biggest differences of Audible Plus vs Audible Premium Plus is the price. Plus costs $7.95 per month, while Premium Plus costs $14.95.

2. Benefits

The second key difference is the benefits offered with Audible Plus versus Premium Plus. Here’s a quick breakdown of what you need to know:

Plus Benefits:

  • Unlimited listening from Plus catalog.

Premium Plus Benefits:

  • Unlimited listening from Plus catalog.
  • 1 credit per month to use on an audiobook you can keep forever.
  • 30% off extra audiobooks.
  • Exclusive sales.

3. Number of Audiobooks

The last main difference of Audible Premium Plus vs. Plus is how many audiobooks you have access to with each plan. With Plus, you have unlimited access to 11,000+ books from the Plus catalog. However, these 11,000 audiobooks are only a fraction of what you can access with Premium Plus, since Premium Plus allows you to choose your premium selection titles from the full Audible catalog of over 470,000 books.

So, of course, with Premium Plus you aren’t offered unlimited listening from the full catalog. The unlimited listening portion of Premium is still confined to the 11,000 books from the Plus catalog. But with Premium, you can use your one credit each month (or two if you’re on the 2 credit plan) to choose an audiobook from the full catalog…which widens your audiobook choices considerably!

Is Audible Plus or Audible Premium Plus Worth It?

So at this point, we’re left with the question: Is Audible Plus worth it? Or is Audible Premium Plus worth it? Both plans are competitively priced, so it really depends on your needs for whether they will be worth it for you. Here’s what you should consider:

Audible Plus is a good choice if you…

  • Want to listen to a lot of Audiobooks each month
  • Like to try new authors, genres, audiobook readers, etc.
  • Don’t want to own audiobooks, only listen to them
  • Like the books offered in the Plus catalog

Audible Premium Plus is a good choice if you…

  • Want to own audiobooks, not just borrow them
  • Love to listen to new and bestselling books
  • Want to get audiobooks for huge discounts
  • Want to listen to audiobooks without having to wait for them to become available at your library

While this is a high-level overview of whether Audible Plus or Premium Plus are worth it, you can find a comparison of the pros and cons of Audible in depth here to help you decide whether Audible is worth it. But in general, I would say that when considering Premium Plus vs Plus, I’d lean towards going with Premium Plus.

Why? Well, Plus on its own costs $7.95…but remember this is included for free as an extra perk in Premium Plus. So if you consider the difference in cost between Plus and Premium, you’ll find that Premium leaves you paying only an extra $7 per month. This means if you were already considering Plus, you can upgrade and get an audiobook each month that you can keep forever for the low price of $7!

When you consider the cost of audiobooks (generally in the high $20s or low $30s for one audiobook), this is an amazing deal! Premium Plus gets you the best of both worlds, allowing you to stream unlimited audiobooks as well as getting an audiobook each month that you can keep forever. But don’t just take my word for how amazing Premium Plus is—try Audible Premium Plus free for 30 days to discover how you like the Plus catalog plus get up to two audiobooks completely free!
