What to Consider Before Buying a Reading Light for Bed

When you’re considering buying a reading light for bed, there are several factors you will want to think about before you buy. Considering all these factors up front will help you make an informed decision and help you find the best personal reading light for you!

Type of Light

One of the first things you’ll want to think about is what type of light is best for you, as there are four main types of book lights for reading in bed. There isn’t one specific type that is superior to the others, but depending on your own preferences and how you like to read you may find that one type will be the superior choice for you.

The four types of lights for reading at night are neck lights, bookmark lights, clip-on book lights, and clip-on lights for bed headboards. You’ll find that this list of best reading lights for bed includes lights from all four styles, so be sure to consider what is best for you before you buy.

Neck book lights drape around your neck and utilize flexible arms with lights on each end that you can point toward your book. They are excellent as a hands-free reading light for bed and offer a variety of positioning options to get the best light coverage on the page. However, those who like to read laying down may find that the back of the light digs into their neck a bit.

The next type, bookmark lights, are lightweight reading lights that attach to your book in a clip-on format. The key feature of these lights is that they are thin enough that you can use them as a bookmark! Bookmark lights are likely your best option if you’re looking for the smallest portable reading lights, as they take up practically no space at all. They are also perfect for reading paperbacks as they don’t weigh down the pages, but you’ll find that with most bookmark lights you will have less flexibility in positioning the light over your book.

Meanwhile, the clip-on book light style is one of the most popular types of reading lights for bed, so you’ll find a ton of options on the market. These are similar to bookmark lights in their method of attaching to books, but you’ll find that these are a little larger and have slightly more bulky clips than the bookmark ones do. These also usually have a longer arm space, so you have more flexibility in where you can position the light over your book. One thing to be aware of before you choose this style, however, is that some people find clip-on reading lights to be unwieldy (especially on smaller paperbacks). I personally don’t find this to be an issue, but it’s something to consider before you buy.

The last type of light is clip-on lights for bed headboards (or shelves or nightstands). These lights for reading in bed are usually the largest of the book light options, and you’ll find them to be similar to bedside lamps. However, one key difference between these and lamps is that these reading lights usually offer a more focused light beam rather than the more spread-out light cast by a lamp. This means you are less likely to disturb someone else in the bed or in the room with you when you using a reading light like these…although in general they do cast more light than many of the smaller book lights (like the around-the-neck book lights and bookmark lights).

As you can see, all these types of lights offer excellent features, but each style has its own unique twists. You should be sure to consider which type fits your reading style best to make sure you buy a reading light you will love!

Brightness

The next thing you will want to consider before you buy a light for reading in bed is the brightness level of the light and whether the light brightness is adjustable. Everyone has different preferences for how bright they like their reading lights to be, so this is a bit subjective of a criteria. However, there are a few factors you will want to be sure to think about.

First, are you looking for a light to help you read in bed without disturbing someone else in the room? This is one of the most important criteria for many people shopping for a personal book reading light, so if that’s you as well then you should be sure to buy a light that has good dimming capabilities.

You’ll also want to consider the light sensitivity of whoever you are sharing a room with. If you look at reviews for the most popular book lights on the market, you’ll see that many of them have contradictory reviews where some people say the light is the perfect dimness while others say it was too bright and annoyed their partner. If you or the person you share a room with are particularly sensitive to light, you’ll want to be sure to get a light that offers the lowest brightness capabilities.

On the flip side, if you have issues reading in low light then you will likely want to get a light that offers brighter light rather than dim light. There’s no reason to get a book light that won’t give you enough light to see by, so if you have any sort of eye disorder or eye issues then you will want to factor this in as you consider what light to buy.

As I mentioned earlier, this is a highly subjective factor to consider as everyone has different levels of light they like and different levels of light that will work for their situations. But if you at least consider this factor before you buy, then you are much more likely to end up with the best book light for you.

Color Temperature

Another light-related factor that is crucial to consider is the Kelvin Color Temperature of the light you buy. When looking at various reading lights on the market, you’ll often see terms like white light, white-warm light, blue light, etc. While these terms can be a little subjective, the Kelvin Color Temperature is the more precise way to measure the color of the light and will tell you exactly what you’re getting.

Why does the color temperature matter? You can find a full explanation here, but in short the color temperature matters because choosing the right temperature can reduce eye strain and stress (particularly when reading at night). Light with blue wavelengths can be disruptive to your sleep as well, so avoiding lights in these ranges can possibly help you be healthier and more well-rested!

The recommended color temperature for reading at night is one that is warm or slightly yellow in color, such as a light around the 3000K range…so this is the color temperature I recommend you try to find for your bed lights for reading.

However, there are some people who find this yellow light does not work well for them to read by (whether because of eye issues or simply because they do not like the color). In cases like these, I recommend you try to find a light with warm white light as this is not as yellow but still easier on the eyes.

When you’re looking for the best book lights for reading in bed, however, my best tip is to get one with multiple color temperatures if you can. Many of the lights available today offer at least 2-3 different color settings, which means you can purchase the light and then decide on which color light works best for you. This is a great way to have the flexibility to change between color temperatures depending on your surroundings as well!

Power Source

Your next factor to consider before buying a reading light is what power source it uses. There are several to choose from, including ones that are battery operated, ones that are rechargeable, and ones that plug into the wall (you can also occasionally find solar reading lights like this light, which didn’t make the cut for best reading lights for bed but is a great option for camping or other outdoors activities!)

Most of the lights on this list of best book lights for night reading are rechargeable, although you’ll find a few that plug into the wall and even fewer that are battery operated. The reason for this is that many of the battery-operated lights, like this Energizer Clip-On Book Light, chew through batteries like crazy and you’ll be replacing them nearly constantly if you read every night before bed. Additionally, many of the battery-operated ones also only offer one brightness setting and color temperature (often BRIGHT and VERY WHITE) which makes them less useful for reading in bed at night.

Price

Price-wise, I’m sure you’ll be delighted to discover that most reading lights are quite inexpensive. In fact, every reading light on this list is under $25 and most are under $15. In general, you get what you pay for so the most inexpensive lights are not always the best quality or have the best range of features. However, if price is an issue for you, then consider buying this reading light which is one of the best low-priced but still quality choices.

The Best Reading Lights for Bed Reviews 2023

1. Vont Clip-On Reading Light

When searching for the best reading lights for bed, one you’ll want to consider is the Vont Clip-On Reading Light. Its sturdy yet lightweight construction means it’s easy to use and will last for many years to come!

One of the best features of this light is its large clip, which means you have lots of options for how to use this light. You can clip it onto the back of a hardcover book and use it as a clip-on book light, or you can clip it onto a headboard, a desk, or nearly any other surface. And, if you prefer, you can also simply set it on top of a hard surface rather than clipping it onto anything.

This light also offers 16 LED bulbs with a color temperature of 5500-6000K, and this model comes with a touch sensor that allows you to easily switch between three different brightness levels: low, medium, and high. This means you can set the brightness level however you like for your own unique situation!

Another excellent feature is the 360° flexible gooseneck, which offers the ability to angle the light however you like for the best lighting conditions while reading. But while this neck is extremely flexible, it also does an excellent job staying in place and does not droop out of position.

Additionally, this light is rechargeable (and charges fully in 1.5-3 hours), allowing you to use this light wherever you like without worrying about plugging it in. And with each charge, you can get up to 8 hours of use depending on the brightness settings you choose.

One thing to be aware of is that this light comes with a USB charging cord but no wall adapter, so if you plan to plug it into the wall you should pick up a wall adapter to use. You can learn more about this reading light here, but on the whole you’ll find this to be a great versatile reading light that you will love to use!

2. LEDGLE Rechargeable LED Book Light

The LEDGLE Rechargeable LED Book Light is an amazing LED reading light for bed. It is lightweight, hands-free, and flexible in its use, so when you’re looking for the best book light for bed you will definitely want to consider this one!

This book light is lightweight and quite comfortable to wear, as the rubber material makes the frame more comfortable as it sits against your neck. To use this light, you simply place it around your neck and then you can easily adjust the flexible arms to point the lights toward your reading.

There are actually two models of this book light, one that offers 2700K-7000K color temperature and another that is 6500-7000K. I recommend the 2700K-7000K one as it offers the recommended color temperature of 3000K for night reading, but also gives you flexibility in what color light you choose to use.

As far as brightness goes, this model is excellent and comes with three brightness options: spotlight, wide angle, or spotlight + wide angle together. You can also choose to use the lights on both arms at the same time or only turn on one at a time, which gives you even more lighting choices. Do note that when the lights on both arms are turned on this light is quite bright, so if you’re looking to use it as a reading light that won’t keep others awake then you will likely wish to use the light from only one arm instead of both.

Another excellent feature of this book light is that it is rechargeable. This means you can simply plug it in between uses and it will always be ready to go! It takes around 2.5 hours to fully charge if you’ve let it run down, and there is a little light that will turn green once it is full. You can then use the book light for around 6-8 hours before it needs to be charged again.

However, one thing to be aware of is that this light comes with a USB charging cord but no wall adapter. You likely already have an extra adapter laying around from a phone or other device, but if not you will need to buy a wall adapter to use. But on the whole, you will find this LEDGLE Rechargeable Book Light an excellent way to get your reading fix at night!

3. Vekkia Rechargeable Book Light

When looking for the best reading light for bed, another light you’ll want to consider is the Vekkia Rechargeable Book Light. Like the LEDGLE light, this Vekkia one is a book light to place around your neck and can be used while reading in bed as well as in a lot of other situations.

While the older model of this Vekkia light offers 3 brightness settings but no changes in color temperature, this new Vekkia model is perfect as it offers three temperatures: warm (3000K), mixed white (4200K) and white (6500K). For each of these temperatures you can also choose three different levels of brightness….which means you have nine total different light settings to choose from with this handy night book light. You can also choose whether to turn on the lights on one arm or on both simultaneously to further dim or brighten the light as you would like.

This is an amazing light and one of the best rechargeable book lights, allowing you to save money by not spending on batteries and simply recharging it instead. Depending on the light settings you use, you may find that the light lasts anywhere from 5-60 hours without needing to be charged as well. There is a micro USB cable included, but in order to plug it into the wall to charge you will need a USB wall adapter.

The arms are super flexible and allow you to position them however you need to get the light shining at the right angle, and overall these are quite comfortable to wear. For those who don’t wish to clip a book light onto their book or find that clip on lights interfere with flipping their books’ pages, these lights can be an excellent choice instead!

I also love that this light comes in three color options: Black, Blue, and Pink. This is perfect for those with families of readers who each want their own color, and is also perfect for those of us who just like pretty color options. On the whole, this is one of the best LED reading lights you can find!

4. Glocusent LED Neck Reading Light

The final neck reading light on this list is the Glocusent LED Neck Reading Light, which is another excellent bed reading light. I love how this style of reading light means you have both your hands free and your book unencumbered by anything clipped to the pages!

You’ll find that this light offers three color temperature modes: yellow (3000K), warm white (4000K), and cool white (6000K). Like the Vekkia neck light, this Glocusent one offers three brightness levels per color temperature as well as having an independent switch for each arm’s light. This offers up excellent flexibility in case you want to use this light for activities other than reading, such as crafting or going for a run!

While this light is rechargeable like the other two neck lights already mentioned, the one thing that really sets this light apart from the Vekkia and the LEDGLE is that it uses a USB-C charging cable rather than a micro USB cable. In my personal opinion, that sets this one at an advantage because many phones also use a USB-C connection. Not having to carry around or keep an extra cable type on hand is a huge plus for me, so if this is the same for you then you might find this Glocusent neck light to be the best choice for you. (Note that you will need to either buy a wall adapter or use one you have laying around already, as only a charging cable comes with this light).

You’ll find that you can get up to 80 hours of reading time out of this neck light without recharging, depending (of course) on your settings and how bright you like the light to be. The beam of this light was also specifically designed to be narrow enough that it will illuminate your book’s pages without disturbing anyone else in the room, so if you have a partner who can’t sleep with bright lights on then this could also be the best option for you.

Other features that set this light apart include the small padded section for comfort on the part of the unit that rests against your neck, as well as an 18 month warranty. When you’re looking for the best book reading light for bed, it doesn’t get much better than this!

5. Mighty Bright Clip On Rechargeable Book Light

When it comes to the best clip on book lights for reading, bookmark lights are an innovative and amazing option. And one of the best of this type is the Mighty Bright Clip On Book Light!

This Mighty Bright Book Light offers one of my favorite brightness features I’ve ever seen on book lights: continuous dimming! Rather than the step-down lighting system of most other book lights, this one allows you to hold down the “on” button and the light will dim or brighten until you let go when you find the exact brightness level you want. This is an amazing feature for those of us who have frequently wished for more control over the brightness levels of our book lights!

Unfortunately, this light only offers one color temperature. However, this color temperature is 3000K which is considered the ideal night reading color temperature (of course, you may find it’s not the ideal for you depending on your eyesight and your own preferences). For me personally, however, I find this to be an excellent reading color so I don’t mind that it is the only temperature possible on this book light.

This book light is also rechargeable, which is wonderful, and can last for up to 60 hours on one charge. When you need to recharge it, it should charge fully within an hour! There is a micro USB charging cable included, but you will either need to buy a wall adapter or use it with one you already have.

Another feature I love about this light is that the core of the bookmark is durable and stable, but the upper portion is a flexible and adjustable neck that you can swivel as you need to light up the page. Depending on the size of the book you’re reading, you may find that the dimmer settings of this light will not light up the pages fully. But this can be remedied by either increasing the light level, or simply swiveling the neck to reach the part of the page you need!

One other slight downside to this light is that it is more expensive than the other lights on this list (but it is still under $25, so it’s not too bad). However, if you are looking for something lightweight and portable that won’t get in the way while you read, then this light is definitely worth the extra cost. It is also worth it if you’re looking for a super low light option that won’t keep anyone else in the room awake! With a 1 year warranty as well and the fact that it is thin enough to use as a bookmark, all the features of this little light definitely add up to make it one of the best clip on reading lights you’ll ever find!

6. Vekkia Bookmark Book Light

The Vekkia Bookmark Book Light is another innovative clip on reading light for bed that you are likely to fall in love with! There is quite a bit of feature overlap between this one and the Mighty Bright bookmark light, but there are some key differences as well that might make you love (or dislike!) this light more.

Unlike the Mighty Bright light, this Vekkia light does offer multiple color temperatures including a 3000K one. This is spectacular! Vekkia calls these color temperatures “warm,” “white,” and “mixed,” and to use them you simply press the button to change between the three.

Like the Mighty Bright light, this bookmark light also has continuous dimming with a long press of the button. This helps you choose exactly the brightness setting you want. It is also small and one of the best portable reading lights, and can be made flat to be used as a bookmark when you’re done reading for the night.

However, while you’re able to bend the bookmark vertically to angle the light on the page, there isn’t much side-to-side movement you can make with this light. That means it isn’t quite as flexible as would be nice, and is instead a little more difficult to angle than other lights on this list.

But there is one more feature that turns this into a unique book light and makes up for its lack of flexibility, and that is its recharging system. This rechargeable book reading light is cleverly designed with a built-in USB charger! Rather than having to carry around or use a USB charging cable, you simply remove the clip on the bookmark and then you can plug it into a wall adapter (not included) or your computer to charge.

Overall this is an incredible little reading light that is versatile in its use, even working as a clip on light for Kindle devices. If you’re looking for an inexpensive rechargeable book reading light that will be unobtrusive while reading, then this could be an excellent book light for you!

7. Dewenwils Rechargeable Book Reading Light

Another good portable book light is the Dewenwils Rechargeable Book Reading Light. This light is a different form of the bookmark-like design and is a good option for those looking to read in bed or those looking for a light to take on travels, as it folds up quite flat and is easy to carry.

This light’s color temperature only offers a 3000K setting, while the brightness settings offer you two choices. You can use it fully bright or at half brightness, which isn’t the most innovative but does get the job done. It is a little on the bright side if you’re trying to use it while someone is sleeping in the same room with you, but otherwise it shouldn’t be an issue.

While this light is different from the others on this list in that it isn’t flexible, it still has rotatable sections so that you can aim the light toward any part of the page. The light itself folds open and then the top can be adjusted up and down and side to side to help illuminate the page however you need. It’s a different approach than the other lights on the market, but is still quite effective.

And one of the coolest things about this light is that to charge it, you simply plug it into your computer or a USB wall adapter—no charging cords needed! It should take about 1.5 hours to fully charge when depleted, and then should last you for at least 8 hours of reading or more if you use it on the dimmer setting.

Another excellent feature is that the clip is quite strong so it should hold onto books of all types very well, but it is gentle enough to not damage the pages. However, one downside of this light’s design is that opening and adjusting the light causes a loud clicking noise, which can be annoying if you are trying to read without waking up someone else in the room.

On the whole, this isn’t the best book light out there if you’re looking for a light that you can use discretely in a dark room without waking someone up. However, if that isn’t a concern for you, then this is a handy little light with some innovative features that could be very useful to have!

8. Flexilight Cute Clip-On Bookmark Light

The final bookmark-like light on this list is the Flexilight Cute Clip-On Bookmark Light, which is a fun light for kids (or for adults who love cute things)! It may not be the most feature-rich of the lights on this list, but it still compares quite well for its purpose and makes an adorable gift or stocking stuffer for book lovers!

This light is very straightforward and simple, and is essentially just a surprisingly bright light up bookmark. It only has one brightness setting (offering 8 lumens of light), and it’s super thin and perfect for a bookmark for kids or adults. You’ll also find these lights to be surprisingly flexible and easy to pose in a way that will help illuminate the page anywhere you need it to!

Unlike the other lights on this list, these flexilight bookmark lights are not rechargeable but instead require batteries. They come with two batteries included, but if you plan to use this for a while you should probably just go ahead and order more CR2016 batteries now to have on hand.

While this isn’t the most sophisticated of book lights and isn’t one I’d recommend to people looking for the dimmest light capabilities to keep their partners from being annoyed by their night reading habits, the flexilight bookmark lights are super cute and inexpensive and are perfect for anyone else who wants to indulge in reading at night. They are also perfect for kids who are bookworms or kids you want to convince to become bookworms, as these lights are fun and will put a smile on anyone’s face!

9. LuminoLite Rechargeable Reading Light

The next category of lights, clip on lights, are the most popular type to use for reading in bed. And the LuminoLite Rechargeable Reading Light is one of the best clip on book lights of them all!

This light offers three color temperature modes: 3000K warm light, 4200K mixed light, and 6000K white light. With such an excellent range of color temperatures, you are sure to find the one that works best for you. Additionally, you’ll find that each mode has three different brightness levels that allows you to adjust how much light the book light produces. You’ll find this light does a great job of lighting up the book pages without lighting up the whole room!

You’ll also find that this rechargeable book light does an excellent job of lasting a long time between charges, with up to 60-70 hours of reading with the light on its low brightness settings! A micro USB cord is included for charging, and you can plug this into your computer, a power bank, or a USB wall adapter (not included).

This book light is also amazing as it is lightweight and small enough that you can even clip it onto paperback books. Its neck is also quite flexible, which means you can easily adjust the light to help you see your pages at whatever angle is best for you.

With so many amazing features, this really is quite possibly the best book light for reading in bed! And it’s also especially perfect for those who need dimmer settings to keep from waking up anyone else in the room.

10. Topelek Reading Light

When looking for clip on book reading lights, the Topelek Reading Light is another super popular option. It has lots of features that will make you a happy reader, and at a very reasonable price!

Like the LuminoLite book light, this Topelek one offers three color temperatures ranging from 3000K to 6500K. There are also three brightness settings to choose from, and you simply press the button to control the brightness level or long press the button to change between color temperatures. It’s a simple but effective system that makes using this light easy.

This light also comes with a micro USB charging cable that you can plug into your computer or a USB wall adapter. It only takes about 1.5 hours to charge fully, and you can use each charge for up to 60 hours depending on your brightness settings! But one of the coolest charging features of this light, and what sets it apart from all the other book lights out there, is that it has a battery indicator light that allows you to see how much power remains before you need to charge. This wonderful feature helps you to gauge when you should plug it in, rather than simply having to guess.

The flexible neck and lightweight design of this light also help you to use this light exactly as you need wherever you need. The neck is so flexible that it even allows you to fold it up, which makes it perfect if you want to take it with you while traveling or on the go! Plus, the clamp for the clip-on feature of this light is coated with a silicone surface, which means this clip is soft enough to not harm the pages of any book you clip it onto.

Additionally, you’ll find it comes with a small bag to carry the book light in…which is just an additional bonus that makes this light an excellent buy. You’ll find this is an amazing book light that has enough features to satisfy even the most picky of nighttime readers!

11. Vekkia Cute Rechargeable Book Light

If you’re looking for a light that will be both cute and functional, then the Vekkia Rechargeable Book Light could be the way to go. This light comes in rose red, grey, and black and is the perfect blend between adorableness and functionality!

Although this Vekkia light only offers one color temperature (3000K), it does offer three different brightness levels that will help you get the perfect balance of brightness for reading without brightening the room too much. You can easily light up the pages of your book, but the light settings of this reading light are also particularly good for using without bothering others in the room.

With this rechargeable light, you’ll find that it takes around 2.5 hours to fully charge and then you can use it for up to 40 hours of reading time. All you have to do is plug in the micro USB charging cable that comes with this light, and then you’ll be good to go! But be sure to buy a USB wall adapter for charging if you don’t already have an extra one laying around at home.

You’ll find the lightweight nature of this book light allows you to easily clip it onto any book, with the clip itself having foam padding to prevent you from harming any pages. The neck of this light is also easy to bend to give you the perfect light angle while reading!

Additionally, you’ll find this light is backed by a 1 year warranty in case of any issues. This is wonderful to know in case you end up needing it for any reason, so by having a 1 year warranty you will have peace of mind about buying this product. It’s an awesome and cute little book light that anyone would love!

12. Vekkia BH-01 Rechargeable Clip On Book Light

One of the most unique book lights on this list is the Vekkia BH-01 Clip On Book Light, which is a perfect book light for those looking for more light coverage over their pages while reading. The reason it’s so great for this purpose is because this light actually has two flexible arms with lights on the end of each, unlike all the others above which only offer one light head.

The dual heads on this book light can light up two full pages of your book, as you can position them independently of one another so you have the best possible lighting while reading. This is awesome as it leads to less need for repositioning the light while reading. You’ll find that this light offers 3000K warm light, as well as two brightness settings so you can choose the level of brightness you prefer…plus the ability to choose whether to turn on one or both light heads. With all these possibilities, you have quite a lot of ability to control the brightness of this light.

You’ll find this rechargeable light lasts for up to 20 hours without charging, and it comes with a micro USB cable that you can use to plug in anywhere including your computer or a USB wall adapter (not included). Meanwhile, the clip on function of this light is excellent with a soft pad that allows you to clip it onto a book or onto any electronic screen including a computer, iPad, Kindle, etc.

The arms are very flexible which is wonderful, and you’ll also find that this light comes with a one year warranty. On the whole, this is quite likely to be the best book light for night reading you ever buy!

13. Hoogalite Amber Clip-On Reading Light

The last clip on book light on this list is another unique one: the Hoogalite Amber Clip-On Reading Light. This one offers the lowest color temperature of all the lights on this list, as well as some other cool features that make it an all-around good reading light to use!

This reading light’s most distinctive feature is its amber light color, which is awesome for blocking the blue spectrum of light that could keep you awake or cause other possible health or eye issues. While the lowest color temperature settings for other lights on this list is 3000K, this light offers up a stunning 1600K light setting! If you’re looking for a more yellow and soft light to use for your reading, this could definitely be a good choice. However, many users may also find this color temperature to be a little too yellow for their tastes.

Another feature of this light is its three brightness settings, which allows you some flexibility in choosing the right one for you. You’ll also find that this rechargeable light offers you up to 30 hours of reading before you need to use the included micro USB cable to charge it (note that a USB wall adapter is not included). However, this light does charge slower than many others with around a four hour time to full charge.

Other great features of this light include its flexible 7-inch arm that you can bend however you need, as well as its sturdy clamp for clipping onto your book. All these features, combined with the calming 1600K light, means this is an amazing book light if you’re looking for the perfect balance between enough light so you can read easily and little enough light so you won’t disturb anyone while you read!

14. Eyocean LED Reading Light

The final category of reading lights for bed are the lights you clip onto your headboard, nightstand, etc. instead of clipping onto a book. And the Eyocean LED Reading Light is one of the best of this type of light!

This light has a different head shape than all the other lights on this list, with a circular ring design. It offers three lighting modes between 3000K-6500K (warm white, natural white, and bright white) which allows you to choose which color temperature works best for you. Each mode also has three brightness levels, allowing you to adjust it as you need.

Unlike most of the lights on this list, this light requires you to use it while it is plugged in. You’ll find the on/off and brightness adjuster buttons on a remote attached to the charging cord, and will also find that the cord plugs into a USB port which allows you to charge it from your computer or from a USB wall adapter like the one included with this light.

You’ll find the clip to be quite sturdy and perfect for clamping to any flat surface less than 2.4 inches thick. While this is designed for clipping to a headboard or desk-like surface, you could maybe clip it to a book…but you will likely find the clip to be far too bulky for this purpose, so I don’t recommend it.

The neck is about 15 inches long and flexible, which gives you quite a bit of ability to maneuver it so it shines perfectly on your page. Of course, you’ll want to keep in mind this is meant to be right beside you in bed, so if you don’t have the space to clip it anywhere near where you sleep then this light probably won’t be a good choice for you.

Another excellent feature, however, is that this light keeps your settings from the last time you used it, so whatever color temperature and brightness you chose should be primed and ready for the next time you turn the light on. But while there are lots of good things about this light, there is one feature that I really don’t like: the little blue light that comes on next to the power switch when you turn the lamp off! While this is meant to help you find the on/off button easily in the dark, it is bright and a little annoying while trying to sleep. You could always cover it up if you like, but this is something to be aware of before you buy.

On the whole, if you’re looking for a reading light for bed headboards then this can be a good one to choose. It has enough color temperature and brightness settings to be perfect for a variety of readers and variety of situations, so you are likely to find this to be an excellent light for reading at night!

15. Raniaco LED Clip Reading Light

Another headboard clip on reading light you might like to consider is the Raniaco LED Reading Light. It’s a super popular option and may be just what you’re looking for!

This book light offers three different brightness levels of low, medium, and high, but unfortunately only offers one color temperature. This color temperature is 6000K, which is my personal least favorite temperature as it is a very bright white…but if this is the color temperature you like, then it can be a good choice for you (many people with issues reading in low light situations find this to be a helpful light).

While this light is a clip on headboard reading light, it is different from many of its type in that it is rechargeable rather than needing a wall outlet. You’ll find it comes with a USB compatible cord that you can plug into a USB wall adapter (not included). It should take around four hours to fully charge and should last for up to 24 hours, depending on the brightness settings you choose.

The clamp on this reading light allows you to open it up to nearly 2.4 inches wide, so you should be able to use it with many flat surfaces. While you could maybe attach it to a book, for the most part you’ll find the clip to be large and bulky and in your way if you use it this way. But using it by clipping it to a nearby surface is an excellent way to read without having it attached to your book!

Another feature you may like about this book light is the bar-like light shape, as opposed to the ring and circular lights that many other headboard reading lights utilize. You’ll also find the arm design to be nicely flexible, and easy to help position the light over your reading material.

On the whole, this is a sturdy and useful product. If you don’t need multiple color temperatures or the eye-care light of 3000K, then this is a light you should definitely check into!

16. Lepower Clip On Light for Bed Headboard

The last light on this list of best reading lights for bed is also a headboard clip on reading light and it’s called the Lepower Light for Bed Headboard.

Their updated version of this light offers three color temperatures: vintage yellow, warm white, and cool white. These temperatures range from the low setting of 2700K up to the cool white setting of 6000K, giving you a variety of options and the lowest color temperature on this list next to that of the Hoogalite Amber Reading Light.

As far as brightness goes, this light is amazing as it offers continuous dimming rather than different brightness levels. This means you can choose the exact brightness level you like, instead of using pre-selected levels that may not fit your needs. You can adjust these settings by pressing the buttons on the remote attached to the cord.

Regarding the power source of this light, you’ll find it comes with a USB cable but no USB wall adapter. But unlike the Raniaco headboard light, this one does require you to use it while it is plugged in to a power source (either a wall socket, computer, power bank, or other USB charging source).

Other cool features include that this light stays on your most recent color temperature when you turn on the light again, and that the arm is flexible and easy to adjust so if you change reading positions you can simply move the arm rather than having to move the whole light.

The clip is also strong and large enough to clip onto anything under around 2.4 inches, and this light comes with a one year warranty as well. If you’re looking for an excellent light that you won’t need to clip onto your book to use, then this one is definitely one of the best options out there!
