Wondering how to return a book on Audible? Or wondering can you return a book on Audible? The answer is yes, you can…and it’s usually a very simple process. Read on to learn everything you need to know about Audible returns, and then follow the step-by-step guide to get your Audible book returned today!

What is Audible’s Return Policy?

The Audible return policy is a fantastic service for Audible members, as it allows you to take a chance on an audiobook without worrying about losing your money or credit if you don’t end up liking it. And, even better, the return policy is excellent and quite liberal, so there are only a few things you need to know:

  • You need to be an active Audible Premium Plus member
  • You need to return the audiobook within 365 days of purchase
  • Audible reserves the right to limit the number of returns you can make if they think you’re misusing the return privileges
  • You’ll be refunded using the same method you used to purchase (e.g., purchasing with Audible credits means you’ll get credits back when you return)
  • You are allowed to return a book even if you’ve listened to it already

While Audible’s return policy is quite liberal, note that it is not meant to be used to listen to multiple books on each credit. It’s simply there so you can feel completely comfortable taking a chance on an audiobook or narrator you wouldn’t normally try! Amazon will notice if you abuse the return policy and are regularly returning audiobooks so you can use the Audible credit again, and in such a case your account may be suspended.

Now that you are on your Purchase History page, locate the title you wish to return and click the “Return this title” button off to the right side of the title.

Note: If you are trying to return an audiobook from your mobile device, you will need to tap the book cover to make the “Return this title” option appear.

Don’t see the “Return this title” or “Exchange” button? Don’t worry, this doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t return the title! You’ll just need to reach out to Amazon’s customer service to check if they can help you return it. 3. Select the Reason for Your Return

After tapping “Return this title,” you will be asked to select the reason for your return. Reasons include “Issue with the audio (skipping, etc)”, “Did not like the book”, “Did not like the narrator”, “Bought it by mistake”, and more.

Once you select your reason for your return, you’re all set! You will receive a confirmation on screen indicating that your return was successful…and if you used a credit to buy the audiobook originally, you’ll have instant access to use that credit on another audiobook now. Returning an Audible Book FAQ

Still have questions about how to return books on Audible? Check out these frequently asked questions! And if you have a question not covered here, feel free to leave it in the comments.

1. What happens when I return a book on Audible?

When you return a book on Audible, you lose access to the audiobook and will receive a refund to the original payment method you used to purchase it. This means if you used an Audible credit to buy the audiobook, you will receive a credit back to your account when you return it. Or if you used a credit card, you will receive a refund back to that same card.

2. How long do I have to return a book on Audible?

When can you return a book on Audible? And how long do you have to decide whether to return it or not? Audible’s return policy states you have up to 365 days to return the Audible book, and you can choose to return it at any point within that time frame.

3. How often can I return a book on Audible?

How often can you return books? And how many Audible books can you return? These are common questions, but are not easily answered as Audible does not state a specific number or frequency in their return policy.

However, they do state that they monitor accounts they think may be abusing their return policy. So I highly recommend you don’t try to game the system by returning titles just so you can listen to a second, third, or fourth audiobook for free. This is not what the return policy is for! And if you often buy audiobooks, listen to them completely, and then return them…well, you can be sure Audible will notice.

So how many books can you return on Audible? You can for sure return a few each year without any issues. But I recommend you return only as many as you need to. The return policy is there so that if you dislike an audiobook for any reason, you can get a refund/exchange…so you should use the return feature whenever you dislike the audiobook you chose. That’s what the policy is there for, after all!

And if Audible sees you aren’t regularly engaging in suspicious returning activity, then they likely won’t have a problem if you return a few more audiobooks than is strictly “normal” (so don’t worry if you happen to have a run of bad luck with the audiobooks you buy!)

4. Can you return a finished book on Audible?

Yes! You can return a book on Audible even if you have partially or wholly listened to it.

However, if you did finish listening to the audiobook, you should ask yourself why you still want to return it. If you have a legitimate reason, then go for it! But if you’re just trying to game the system, that’s not the best idea and can result in your account being suspended.

5. Can I return a book on Audible and get my credit back?

Yes, you can return a book for credit on Audible! How can you do this? If you purchased the book using an Audible credit in the first place, you will automatically receive the refund as an Audible credit too.

6. The book I want to return says “not eligible for self-service return.” What should I do?

If you see the words “not eligible for self-service return” or “not eligible for self-service exchange” listed next to your titles on your Purchase History page, don’t panic! You may still be able to return these audiobooks.

This verbiage may show up for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you have already returned several titles this year? Perhaps you recently canceled your Audible membership? Or maybe it’s there for an entirely different reason!

But it does not necessarily mean you can’t return the titles listed this way. It just means you will definitely have to talk to customer service to see if they can help you return it. So reach out to customer service here to see if your title is still eligible for return!

7. Why can’t I return a book on Audible?

There are many reasons you may not be able to return a book on Audible. Some of the most common are that the audiobook was purchased longer than 365 days ago, that you may have already returned too many audiobooks, or that you are no longer an active Audible Premium Plus member.

But if you aren’t able to return a book using the self-service method outlined in the step-by-step guide above, you may still find that your book is eligible for return through talking to Amazon’s customer service. Or it may not be returnable even if you talk to them, but it is worth a try…and even if they can’t help you, they may still be able to tell you why it isn’t returnable in your specific case.
