Can You Gift an Audible Membership?
The first question you might be asking is “can you gift an Audible subscription?” And the answer is yes…and no.
Yes, you can gift an Audible membership by going to the Audible gift membership page. But the membership will only act like a subscription if the recipient is not currently an active member of Audible. If the recipient already has an active Audible subscription, then they will not receive any extra extension on their current membership but will instead just receive all the months’ worth of credits at the time they redeem their gift.
So, for instance, if you purchase a 6 month Audible subscription and give it to a non-member, they will receive 6 months’ worth of Audible Plus as well as 1 credit per month that they can exchange for 1 book. Meanwhile, gifting a 6 month membership to someone who already has a subscription means they do not get any extra months added onto their account and will instead receive 6 credits right away upon redeeming their gift.
This is a slightly strange way for Amazon to handle gift memberships, so its important to understand this distinction up front. So yes you can gift Audible memberships, but it’s not exactly what you might think you’re gifting if you give it to someone with an already-active membership.
How to Gift an Audible Subscription
Giving an Audible gift subscription is a pretty easy process, but if its your first time trying this then you might be a little confused on where to start with an Audible membership gift. Follow the steps below to have this gift checked off your list in no time!
1. Go to the Audible Gift Membership Page
Your first step when looking to buy an Audible subscription as a gift is to go to the Audible gift subscription page. You can find it here.
2. Choose the Audible Gift Membership Length
Your next step is to choose the subscription duration that you would like to give. There are four lengths of Audible gift memberships available:
- 1 month – 1 credit plus access to unlimited titles in the Plus catalog.
- 3 months – 3 credits plus access to unlimited titles in the Plus catalog.
- 6 months – 6 credits plus access to unlimited titles in the Plus catalog.
- 12 months – 12 credits plus access to unlimited titles in the Plus catalog.
All the plans offer unlimited borrowing access to the Plus catalog for the duration of the membership period (1, 3, 6, or 12 months), and each plan gives one credit per month that you can exchange for audiobooks that you keep forever (1 credit = 1 audiobook)
So choose which plan you would like to gift, and then once you’ve chosen you can click the orange “Continue” button to move to the next step.
3. Enter Recipient’s Details on the Customize Your Gift Membership Page
After clicking the “Continue” button, you’ll be taken to the Customize Your Gift Membership Page. On this page, you have the option to choose between emailing your gift to the recipient or printing it and delivering it yourself (kind of like an Audible gift certificate).
Once you’ve decided whether you will print or email the gift to the recipient, fill in the requested details including the recipient’s name and email. You can then choose the delivery date (anytime within a year from the date of purchase) and write a short note or gift message.
You can also choose a fun design to customize the look of the gift that will be sent to your recipient. It’s kind of like choosing which gift card design you like. Then, once you’re satisfied with the way it looks, click the orange “Continue to checkout” button.
4. Confirm Your Purchase
The last step when you’re buying an Audible subscription gift is to double check that everything about the membership looks right before you buy. You can look over details like the length of the subscription or the price you’re paying, and you can even see a list of what your gift recipient will enjoy during each month of their gift membership.
If it all looks good, click the “Confirm your purchase” button and you are done! Your recipient will receive an email (on the delivery date you chose) or you can print and give the information to them in person to let them know you’ve purchased an Audible membership for them.
